This is my last week of freedom before fall classes begin again. I'll be taking Fundamental Algorithms and Operating Systems. These classes, in addition to Programming Languages which I took in the spring, are the prerequisites for most everything else, so I should be able to start picking electives soon. Natural Language Processing is being offered in the spring and I will definitely sign up for that, as a person with a strong language background and an interest in search.

I've now been carrying the Sony PRS-505 ebook reader for three months, and I've read nearly twenty books on it--which is surprising, considering that I spend so much of my time answering people's questions about the ebook itself.

A while back I promised a post on why I think Palm is dying. Since I spent part of this morning looking for interesting medical references in development for the iPhone, this seems like a good opportunity.
Many of the reasons why I think Palm is dying are contained in Engadget's letter from last year, Dear Palm: It's time for an intervention --or rather, in the fact that Palm doesn't seem to have implemented any of the ideas yet.
